The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs won their 4th straight game and improved to 8-3 (6-1 C-USA) on the season after defeating the UTEP Miners, 17-15, this past Saturday. Louisiana Tech had trouble getting their offense going against the 4-7 Miners and was outgained by UTEP by a 392-307 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was QB Jeff Driskel who completed 13 of 22 passes for 188 yards and 2 TD. On the season, Louisiana Tech is averaging 37.9 ppg on 471.3 total yards per game (303.3 passing, 168.0 rushing). Leading the way for the Bulldogs has been RB Kenneth Dixon who has 17 TD’s on the season and is averaging 108.00 yds/game. QB Jeff Driskel, formerly of the Florida Gators, has completed 62.0% of his passes for 21 TD and 5 INT while averaging 292.7 yds/game. Trent Taylor (93.7 yds/game, 7 TD) and Carlos Henderson (73.4 yds/game, 5 TD) have been the main receiving targets for Jeff Driskel. The Bulldogs have only committed 14 turnovers on the season and have a +4 turnover margin.
The Golden Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. The Bulldogs are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss.
This is going to be a great game on Saturday as the winner of this one wins the C-USA West division to advance and take on the winner of the Marshall/Western Kentucky in the C-USA Division Championship next weekend. Southern Mississippi had a slow start in their recent win but displayed with their strong running attack that they don’t need to rely on just QB Nick Mullens to win games for them. Louisiana Tech might have been looking ahead to this matchup as their high-powered offensive only mustered 17 points against UTEP defensive that has been giving up about 35.0 ppg this season. Louisiana Tech plays well at home however, their weakness in their defensive is their pass defense and I think Southern Mississippi and Nick Mullens will be able to put up enough points in this one to at worse cover the spread. Take Southern Mississippi to cover.
