The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators face off on Saturday in the Georgia Dome for the SEC Championship Game.
The Alabama Crimson Tide have a simple formula at this point: a win in this game and they are in the playoffs. Alabama finished he regular season at 11-1 looking better and more focused and reeling off win after win since losing at home to Ole Miss. The Alabama offense is averaging 34.5 points and 421.3 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 16 times. Tide QB Jake Coker has completed 65.4 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Derrick Henry leads the Alabama rushing attack with 1,797 yards and 22 touchdowns and Calvin Ridley is the top receiver with 67 catches and five touchdowns. The Florida Gators finished the regular season at 10-2 but their play has been sketchy since the suspension of starting QB Will Grier. The Gators offense has struggled but their defense is still first rate and have come through for them time and time again. The Florida offense is averaging 25.2 points and 351.9 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 14 times. UF QB Treon Harris has completed 53.7 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Kelvin Taylor leads the Florida rushing attack with 977 yards and 13 touchdowns and Demarcus Robinson is the top receiver with 47 catches and two touchdowns but he was suspended from last week’s game. The Gators defense is allowing 15.5 points and 283.6 yards per game with 14 interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries, and 38 sacks. Antonio Morrison and Jarrad Davis lead the Florida defense with 86 tackles each and Vernon Hargreaves has gathered four interceptions as most team just throw the other way. Florida has a tall order in front of them and will need t play like they did when they stomped Ole Miss earlier this season.
Alabama is 6-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five SEC games, and 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 neutral site games. Florida is 4-0 against the spread following a loss, 4-0 against the spread in their last four neutral site games, and 9-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The favorite has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
The line in this one seems to be spot on and while I see the Tide winning, I don’t see them just moving the football at will, it is just a mater of if Florida can move the ball at all. At 17 this could be a push, if it goes higher the Gators are probably the play but for now at least my free pick is going to be the under as I just see a lot of mucking around between the 20’s.
