The Georgia State Panthers clash with the San Jose Spartans in the Autonation Cure Bowl.
The San Jose State Spartans finished at 6-6 with defeats three of four to end the season so they might have missed out on a better Bowl. The overall numbers say the Spartans were right in the middle of the stats at 28 points scored and allowed. The defense was second against the pass at 154 yards allowed but gave up 215 rushing yards. The offense averaged 415 yards behind a balanced attack that features a rushing and passing games that are both around #55 nationally. Kenny Potter was a solid passer with almost 1,900 yards with 14 TD’s and six picks on 68% completion with SJSU getting 120 catches and over 1,400 receiving yards from Billy Freeman, Hansel Wilson and Tim Crawley. Tyler Ervin was the only runner of significance with 1,895 yards on 172 totes and 13 scores.

The Georgia State Panthers have reached the postseason with a 5-7 record so win or lose they will have a losing mark. The Panthers were one of the hottest teams in the Sun Belt with four consecutive wins to end the season. GSU was an interesting defensive squad with 416 yards allowed with bottom third run and pass D’s but they held opponents to 28 points which was lower then I expected. At 450 yards the panther could move the ball but averaged less them 28 points and anything positive usually positive came from the 8th ranked air game that produced 347 yards. QB Nick led the Georgia State passing attack with 4,160 yards with 26 scores and eleven INT’s Penny Hart (71-1095) and Robert Davis (60-979) pacing the receiving corps. The run wasn’t a strong point with Glenn Smith and Kyler Neal combining for around 660 yards.
The Spartans are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while the over is 5-1 in Spartans last 6 games following a straight up loss. The Panthers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games on fieldturf while going 4-0-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. This could be the perfect opponent for Georgia State because they might be able to run on the Spartans…
