The Virginia Tech Hokies finished the season at 6-6 and won three of their last four games to become bowl eligible. The Virginia Tech offense is averaging 29 points and 367.4 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 19 times. VT QB Michael Brewer was injured for a god part of the season but he completed 57.5 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. Trevon McMillan leads the Hokies in rushing with 961 yards and five touchdowns and Isaiah Ford is the top receiver with 63 catches and 10 touchdowns. The Virginia Tech defense is allowing 24.2 points and 353.8 yards per game with 10 interceptions, 15 fumble recoveries, and 21 sacks. Second leading tackler Deon Clarke has been suspended for this game for VT but Chuck Clarke leads the team in tackles with 100, Andrew Motuapuaka has 66 tackles, and Luther Maddy has 54 tackles. This is Frank Beamer’s last game as Virginia Tech Head Coach so motivation shouldn’t be an issue.
Tulsa is 4-1 against the spread in their last five bowl games, 4-1 against the spread following a win, and 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine non-conference games. Virginia Tech is 5-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 7-15-2 against the spread in their last 24 non-conference games, and 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight neutral site games.
The total in this one is set at 61.5 and that looks a shade high and while this play isn’t one of my stronger ones it’s a lean to the under.
