The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Central Michigan Chippewas collide in the Quick Lane Bowl.
The Central Michigan Chippewas are one of those teams that can win or lose at anytime but fortunately for them it was more of the former. The Chippewas passing attack was potent at 314 yards which led to 27 points and the defense was airtight with only 330 yards and 22 points given up. The focus of the offense was quarterback Cooper Rush who threw for over 3,700 yards with 25 touchdowns and ten interceptions. Jesse Kroll, Anthony Rice, Ben McCord, Mark Chapman and Corey Willis each averaged over 500 yards in receptions so there were plenty of quality targets. Rushing yards were difficult to come by with Martez Walker and Jahray Hayes combining for nearly 700 yards but only a 3 ½ yard average.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers dropped five of six to end the season to finish at 5-7 to become one of the few teams to enter the postseason with a 5-7 record. The Golden Gophers leaned heavily on their defense because points were at a premium at 23 points on 357 yards. The ‘D’ allowed 354 yards and 26 points behind the #15 pass defense that gave up 182 yards. Quarterback Mitch Leidner was average in theair with almost 2,500 yards with 13 TD’s and ten INT’s on around 58%. KJ Maye (65-706), Drew Wolitarsky (36-472) and Brandon Lingen (28-395) were viable receiving options while Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith combined for over 1,200 rushing yards.
The Chippewas are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and the over is 7-1-1 in Chippewas last 9 vs. Big Ten while the Chippewas are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss. The Golden Gophers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss while the over is 6-1 in Golden Gophers last 7 games on fieldturf. I don’t see a huge edge for either team so I’ll take the points…
