The Tennessee Volunteers hit a home run during their Orange and White spring game when 4-star wide receiver KD Nixon committed. Nixon is the Vols sixth commitment of the 2017 recruiting class and the third of the weekend, as he joins Cheyenne Labruzza and Solon Page.
Nixon is easily the Vols top recruit of 2017 and brings a lot to the table.

Nixon is listed as a wide receiver on most recruiting sites, but he has experience playing cornerback as well. Nixon will likely stick to the offensive side of the ball Knoxville, but it’s nice to know he can make the switch if necessary.
As a receiver, Nixon is an explosive player with above-average speed in the 4.5 range. Nixon can change directions in a hurry and is very elusive, making him very tough to tackle in the open field. Nixon doesn’t waste much time dancing, as he likes to get downfield and get what he can get, and it only takes one or two blocks in order for him to house a big run.
The best way to describe Nixon is one of those versatile playmakers who offensive coordinators want to give the ball as much a possible. A Percy Harvin-type player, Nixon can be used at running back, return man and slot receiver. Nixon is too small to play on the outside at 5’7” but can lineup just about anywhere else on the football field.
This is a huge get for the Vols, a team that has had a middle-of-the-road offense in the SEC for quite some time. Last year, it was Jalen Hurd or bust for Tennessee’s offense, and the physical running back could only do so much.
Nixon can help take some of the pressure off others and is the home run threat coach Butch Jones has been looking for.
The Tennessee Vols have been moving in the right direction the past couple of seasons and took yet another step forward with the commitment of Nixon.
