The Georgia Bulldogs tried to close the gap on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2017 recruiting class when they received the commitment from 4-star cornerback Williams Poole III. Georgia now has seven comments in 2017, five of which are 4-star players.
Poole had offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Miami, and Michigan State, among others.

Poole is widely considered easily a top-15 cornerback in this recruiting class and is somebody who could see playing time as early as a freshman. Poole is close to 6’0” and has a frame that will allow him to add some much needed weight. While not much of a speedster, Poole has terrific ball skills and pure cover cover ability that give off the impression he could be a shutdown cornerback in the SEC. Poole anticipates well and has natural hands that allow him to make game changing plays on the football.
Despite his lean frame, Poole also isn’t afraid to help out in run support and does a nice job of shedding blocks to get to the ball carrier. Poole has also shown the ability to make the tackle in one-on-one situations in the open field.
Georgia has to be thrilled with this commitment considering Poole joins a young and talented secondary that’s built for the future. Aaron Davis, Malkom Parrish and Rico McGraw is a young trio of cornerbacks who should hold down the fort to start the season, but there is playing time available for Poole to step in and contribute his first year on campus.
It also has to be a good feeling for the Bulldogs who finally landed a recruit from Georgia, which has been a criticism of the coaching staff in the past.
Georgia landed a guy who can contribute right away and a player who has the potential to be one of the better defensive backs in the SEC in due time.
