Steven Ogletree Commits FAU Owls: What 3-Star Linebacker Brings To Boca Raton
Steven Ogletree Commits To The FAU Owls
The FAU Owls continue to lockup Florida prospects after they landed 2017 3-star linebacker Steven Ogletree out of Plant City. Ogletree had other offers on the table from schools such as Wisconsin, Temple, Northern Illinois and FIU, among others.
Florida Atlantic now has six commitments in the 2017 recruiting class, and they’re all from the state of Florida.

So, what does Ogletree bring to Boca Raton?
Ogletree is an intriguing recruit on the defensive side of the ball, as he’s going to provide the muscle on the second line. Ogletree is simply one of the more physical players in the 2017 recruiting class. He lays the wood on every possession and doesn’t mind sacrificing his body to get the big hit and make the ball carrier feel his presence. At 6’0”, 230 pounds, Ogletree is a big boy who will quickly build a reputation in the C-USA of being a guy who can downright lay the wood.
Ogletree is aggressive of the defensive side of the ball, a sure tackler and plays with great instincts. He’ll certainly add some toughness to an FAU defense that ranked 70th in the country last year with an average of 405 yards allowed.
The one thing that Ogletree could improve on are his pass coverage skills, as he is a little stiff when dropping back and doesn’t look as comfortable as he does when moving forward. Ogletree has to be a versatile defender if he’s going to be an every down linebacker for the Owls.
Now, the intriguing part with Ogletree is that he’s spent some time at running back and quarterback. Ogletree could be used on trick plays from time to time and could see some playing time at running back due to his physical style of play and toughness. There’s possible goal line packages in Ogletree’s future.
Overall, this is a solid pickup for the FAU Owls who are trying to make their mark in the C-USA and looking to take that next step under head coach Charlie Partridge.
Ogletree is easily the top commit of the 2017 recruiting class for FAU at this point and should be a key contributor once he arrives on campus.
