Western Michigan Broncos 2016 Preview
The 2016 Western Michigan Broncos look to take their game to higher level as in capturing the MAC title.
Overview: Master recruiter PJ Fleck continues to acquire quality talent that is the envy of many power conference teams. However, will that talent be consistent enough to capture the MAC title?

Offense: The Western Michigan Broncos averaged 36 points in 2015 so scoring shouldn’t be an issue with much of this unit returning. WMU quarterback Zach Terrell threw for 3,626 yards on 67% with 29 TD’s and 9 picks so he was highly effective and limited mistakes with the added benefit of running for 270 yards. The Broncos lose star receiver Daniel Braverman and his 1,371 receiving yards but Corey Davis (91-1446) is a capable number one and the team has three star athletes that should be able to step in and give Terrell options. The Broncos didn’t have an issue running the ball and won’t in 2016 with everyone back led by Jamauri Bogan (162-1051), Jarvion Franklin (153-735) and LeVante Bellamy (77-493). All MAC tackle Willie Beavers is gone but four starters on a solid O-Line are back.
Defense: The defensive line gets Keion Adams back at defensive end where he led the team with ten TFL and 5.5 sacks but the Broncos return seven of the top eight that were fine against the run but lacked in the pass rush. Part of the problem for Western Michigan was injuries at linebacker with Caleb Bailey the only guy coming back that was healthy for 13 games and his 12 TFL could have been higher if his supporting cast stayed on the field. FS Asantay Brown along with corners Darius Phillips and Sam Beal are the only real experience in the secondary but three star signees abound and there are numerous three star athletes on the defensive side of the football so the 28 points per game allowed a year ago might drop.
Special Teams: The Broncos need a punter and a replacement for dependable placekicker Andrew Haldeman. Darius Phillips is locked in at kick returner but the punt return duties are up for grabs.
Outlook: Western Michigan is one of the favorites to win the MAC with plenty of talent. Of course the Broncos have to beat Northern Illinois in the West and that’s another story.
