South Alabama Jaguars 2016 Preview
The South Alabama Jaguars have their eyes on their second Bowl in three years in 2016.
Overview: Joey Johnson needs some new faces on the offensive side of the football to step up and produce to help out a traditionally stingy defense that lacks experience or USA will be watching the postseason.

Offense: The Jaguars passing attack is the biggest question mark and it all begins under center where projected starter Dallas Davis will be under the microscope after throwing a mere 23 times in 2015. The South Alabama receiving corps will lean on TE Gerald Everett (41-575) and Josh Magee (23-504) and will combine with a strong rushing attack. Xavier Johnson gives USA a potential 1,000 yard rusher with Tyreis Thomas averaging almost five yards yards on 113 touches while the offensive line returns two starters with the painful loss of All Sun Belt center Joseph Scelfo who transferred for his final year. The cupboard is not bare but success depends on the quarterback and the line.
Defense: The Jaguars will continue to run a 4-2-5 formation under new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack who will be switching a few positions however. The defensive line receives a boost with Jimmie Gipson back after an Achilles injury robbed him of 2015 while NT Tre Alford is the top returnee on the line. Roman Buchanan leads the linebacking unit while corner Jeremy Reeves and safety Kalen Jackson combined 16.5 TFL. The issue for the defense was the opposition ran effectively on the front four and the pass rush was subpar and there is no guarantee either will be improved enough in 2016 until proven otherwise.
Special Teams: The Jaguars were solid across the board on special teams from punter Brandon McKee to placekicker Aleem Sunanon (16-19) with Xavier Johnson a threat everytime he brings back a kick.
Outlook: If South Alabama eliminates mistakes and develops a quality passing attack a postseason berth is entirely possible but saying it and doing it are two different things.
