Central Florida Knights 2016 Preview
Scott Frost and the Central Florida Knights look to begin rebuilding in 2016.
Overview: The Knights were one of the best teams in the country in 2014 and then went 0-12 last season so former Oregon OC Scott Frost is tasked with getting the once proud program back on their feet.

Offense: Justin Holman returns under center after throwing for 1,379 yards but he wasn’t much more then a 50% passer and a 7 TD/14 INT ratio led to the Knights averaging 14 points. The good news is Holman and UCF get everybody back that had a ball thrown their way in 2015 with Tre’Quan Smith the top option with Tristan Payton and TE Jordan Franks combining for 41 receptions and 500 yards while three star athletes abound. Central Florida gets back CJ Jones, Taj McGowan and Dontravious Wilson in the rushing attack with eight members of the offensive line returning with starting experience.
Defense: Frost brought Erik Chinander with him from Oregon to run the defense after this unit allowed around 38 points which is unheard of in UCF country. Tackles Jamiyus Pittman and Tony Guerad seem like a good pair to build around after combining for 12 TFL and 6.5 sacks but there are several JUCO transfers coming in to lend a much needed helping hand to the Knights line. Chequan Burkett is the leader of the Central Florida linebacking unit although there is experience and more three star players available. The Knights feature a senior heavy secondary led by FS Drico Johnson and his four TFL and corner Shaquill Griffin and his 15 passes defensed.
Special Teams: The Knights special teams were solid with Caleb Houston seldom having a punt returned with Matthew Wright nailing 13-17 field goals in his first season while Tristan Payton will give UCF a dependable return game.
Outlook: I don’t see Central Florida coming back from the dead and suddenly becoming Bowl eligible but it’s a good bet that Frost squeezes out several wins his first year at the helm.
