The North Carolina State Wolfpack eye a third straight Bowl in 2016 under the guidance of Dave Doeren.

Overview: Doeren has proven he can lead the Wolfpack to the postseason so the bar is already set high with the fans wanting even more.

North Carolina State Wolfpack 2016 College Football Preview, Schedule, Prediction, Depth Chart, Outlook

Offense: With Jacoby Brissett gone, the Wolfpack lost a quarterback that could both run and throw and limited mistakes (except sacks) and it appears Jalen McClendon has beaten out Jakobi Meyers for the job. The Wolfpack return their top four receiving options in Jaylen Samuels, Jumichael Ramos, Nyheim Hines and Bra’lon Cherry who combined for over 1,600 yards. Given the situation under center NC State will lean on the running of a healthy Matthew Dayes with Reggie Gallaspy II and Jaylen Samuels getting opportunities but with three starters gone on the O-Line we need to see how things come together.

Defense: North Carolina State was a solid run stopping defense and that strength begins with the guys up front which is good news with seven of the top eight lineman back led by DE Bradley Chubb and tackle BJ Hill leading the unit with 22 TFL and nine sacks while Justin Jones and Darian Roseboro totaled 11.5 TFL between them. The Wolfpack get their top four back at linebacker with Airius Moore leading the group with eight TFL a season ago. The North Carolina State secondary gave up too many big plays in 2015 and will likely improve although the front seven is still the backbone of this defense.

Special Teams: AJ Cole gives the Wolfpack a solid punter but placekicker Kyle Bombard missed far too many field goals while Nyheim Hines and Bra’Lon Cherry were outstanding in the return game.

Outlook: I see North Carolina State in the postseason once again but going beyond that and beating a Clemson or another ACC power would be a huge step but one that doesn’t seem likely.
