The Charlotte 49ers face a tough season opener with a road trip to face the Louisville Cardinals.
The Charlotte 49ers have their work cut out for them in 2016 following a 2-10 record a year ago where they were outscored 36-18. The 49ers really struggled to throw the ball and are hoping JUCO transfer Kevin Olsen stabilizes a shaky quarterback situation. The Charlotte receiving corps of Trent Bostick, TL Ford, Austin Duke and Uriah LeMay stand to benefit if Olsen proves to be able to deliver in the air. Khalif Phillips gives the 49ers a potential 1,000+ yard runner who will be complimented by Matt Johnson who switches to RB from quarterback. Move the chains and give the defense some rest and Charlotte should be able to do a better job on the scoreboard.

The Louisville Cardinals have a solid combination of talent and experience and for me that the offense has to score more in the 30’s and not rely on the defense. The Cardinals are hoping to get a full and consistent effort from quarterback Lamar Jackson who threw for over 1,800 yards and ran for another 1,100+ and a whopping 8.3 yard average in 2015. UL gets Brandon Radcliff back in the backfield and almost everyone that ran the ball a season ago. The Cardinals return everyone in the receiving corps as well with Reggie Bonnafon, James Quick, Jamari Staples and Jaylen Smith some of the bigger names but Jackson certainly has no shortage of options while five linemen with starting experience are back.
The 49ers are 0-4-2 ATS in their last 6 games overall and the over is 4-1 in 49ers last 5 road games while Charlotte are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Cardinals are 15-3 ATS in their last 18 versus the CUSA and the under is 5-1-1 in Cardinals last 7 games in September while the over is 4-1 in Cardinals last 5 games overall. I’m no a fan of the chalk but I’m going with potential…
