The Georgia Dome and the Georgia State Panthers host the Ball State Cardinals to open 2016.
Mike Neu inherits a Ball State Cardinals squad that has experience but needs to improve after getting outscored 36-23 in last season’s 3-9 campaign. The Cardinals are hoping another year under center for Riley Neal translates in to more completions and more then 3,000 passing yards. The Cardinals top options amongst the receiving corps will be KeVonn Maybin, Corey Lacanaria and Jordan Hogue who should see increased production if Neal can deliver the football. Darian Green and James Gilbert combined to give Ball State over 1,300 yards on the ground but even with improvement in all areas the defense can not allow 500+ yards or wins will be hard to come by.

The first order of business for Trent Miles and the Georgia State Panthers was to find a quarterback and he hopes Emiere Scaife fits the bill after Nick Arbuckle took over 4,300 passing yards to graduation. The Panthers have receivers if Scaife proves to be competent in the air with Penny Hart, and Robert Davis the top targets with Todd Boyd certain to see his share of action. GSU obviously didn’t run the ball often in 2015 but might have to out of necessity if Scaife struggles which means Glenn Smith and Kyler Neal will see an increased workload on the ground especially with experience on the offensive line.
The under is 5-1 in Cardinals last 6 games on fieldturf and is 5-1 in Cardinals last 6 games overall while Ball State are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The under is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 home games and the under is 6-0 in Panthers last 6 games overall while going 5-0 in Georgia State’s last 5 games on fieldturf. Neither team inspires confidence which is th best thing I have to say here…
