The Auburn Tigers and the Clemson Tigers face off on Saturday as the both start their 2016 college football seasons.
The Auburn Tigers had a tough go of it last season as inconsistency at QB was their undoing but it is head coach Gus Malzahn’s hope that they will be improved this year. Auburn appears to be going with John Franklin III at QB to start the season but the experienced Jeremy Johnson and Sean White are both still there and could see action. Auburn running back Jovon Robinson is back and he looked promising finishing last season strong. Receiver has been an issue for Auburn and this year doesn’t look to be different but hopes are Nate Craig-Myers and Kyle Davis could make some noise and at the very least inspire Marcus Davis and Tony Stephens. On defense coordinator Kevin Steele comes over from LSU. The Auburn defensive line looks strong with Montravious Adams and Carl Lawson and should have plenty of depth. Tray Mathews and Rudy Ford man the safeties for Auburn and they will see plenty of action with an inexperienced group of linebackers. Auburn is always talented but it is going to take some big coaching and at least steady QB play for this team to have a big season.

The expectations for the Clemson Tigers are sky high this season after coming up short losing to Alabama in the National Title game last year. Clemson QB Deshaun Watson could be the best player in the country and should be a Heisman finalist if not the front runner to win it. Tigers running back Wayne Gailman rushed for over 1,500 yards last season and he runs behind a solid offensive line. Clemson’s receiving group looks strong with Mike Williams back from injury and he will play with Artavius Scott and Hunter Renfrow. Linebacker Ben Boulware is the heart and soul of the Clemson defense as he had 82 tackles last season and Carlos Watkins and Christian Wilkins should hold down the middle of the defensive line. The weakest spot for Clemson is their secondary where Cordrea Tankersley is the only returning starter. Many have Clemson penciled in for a slot in the College Football Playoff.
Auburn is 3-8 against the spread against the ACC, 5-16 against the spread in their last 21 games, and 1-10 against the spread in their last 11 home games. Clemson is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games, 6-2 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, and 6-1 against the spread in September.
The total is set at 59 but we have two offenses who run plays quickly and go for home runs so I see plenty of scoring and for this one to go over.
