Beaver Stadium and the Penn State Nittany Lions host the Kent State Golden Flashes in the season opener for both schools.
If you follow MAC football you know the Kent State Golden Flashes have to play well defensively because points aren’t easy to come by. The Golden Flashes averaged 13 points in 2015 which explains their record as the defense was left on their lonesome too often. Bollas has a few weapons in the passing game led by Antwan Dixon and Raekwon James but this could be a receiver by committee air game with virtually everyone back that had a pass thrown their way. Kent State didn’t run the ball well a season ago but Nick Holley and Justin Rankin hope to change that behind a veteran offensive line that returns four starters so if experience counts towards improved performance then this team will be better.

The Penn State Nittany Lions finished 2015 with a 7-6 after ending the season with a Bowl loss which was still quite an accomplishment for a team that only outscored the opposition 23-22 behind an okay rushing attack and a defense that was tough to throw on. With Christian Hackenberg, gone, Trace McSorley takes over under center to run the up tempo scheme of OC Joe Moorhead with PSU leaning on 1,100 yard receiver Chris Godwin and DaeSean Hamilton (45-585) who were the passing game in 2015. Saquon Barkley gives the Nittany Lions rushing game potential after totaling nearly 1,100 yards with a 5.9 yard average per touch a year ago. The Penn State Line should benefit from the quick pace and if all else fails the defense should be solid if the line fills some holes.
The under is 5-0 in Golden Flashes last 5 road games and the Golden Flashes are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall while going 1-8 ATS in their last 9 versus the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on grass and the Nittany Lions are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the under is 12-2 in their last 14 versus the MAC. Penn State should be tough to score on and unless they get sloppy the Golden Flashes team total under should hit too…
