The Ohio Bobcats entertain a visit from the Texas State Bobcats in the season opener for both squads.
Everett Withers begins his first season at the helm of Texas State and on his wish list is more scoring and that means quarterback Tyler Jones needs to produce more in the air and cut down on mistakes. Elijah King and Tyler Watts appear to be the Bobcats top receiving options heading in to the season opener. Texas State lost their top runner in Robert Lowe and Tyler Siudzinski now becomes the focus of the rushing attack although Jones isn’t afraid to tuck it and run as his more then 700 yards attests too. The Bobcats lost some starters on the offensive line but they have plenty returning that have started although the offense as a whole must step up after struggling to score in 2015.

If you follow Frank Solich and the Ohio Bobcats you know they are one of the least flashy squads in the MAC. The Bobcats are not on the list of top contenders in the conference but they shouldn’t be overlooked especially if quarterback JD Sprague enters the season 100% after surgery in the spring. A healthy Sprague is good news for receivers Jordan Reid, Brendan Cope and Sebastian Smith as the Bobcats return their top five targets from 2015. AJ Ouellette retains his starting job in the backfield and hopefully provides more explosion or Papi White might see an increase in touches although the offensive line has to pull together to keep Sprague upright and carve out some room in the running game.
The Bobcats are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games and the over is 5-0-1 in Bobcats last 6 games in September while going 5-0-1 in Bobcats last 6 non-conference games. Ohio are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 versus the S-Belt and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf while going 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. Sprague looks to have quit the team? Right now I’ll take the points as I’d rather look elsewhere then lay three TD’s…
