The Boston College Eagles take their defense on the road to face the Massachusetts Minutemen in week two action.
The Boston College Eagles have a tough defense but found out that you still need to score following a season opening 17-14 loss to visiting Georgia Tech to fall to 0-1. The Eagles squeezed out a 320-238 edge in yards but three giveaways were killers. BC held the run of the Yellow Jackets to just 119 yards and under three yards per touch but struggled to take advantage. Jon Hilliman led the Eagles with 102 rushing yards including a 73 yard touchdown burst but quarterback Patrick Towles short passing game wasn’t enough to keep the chains moving. Towles hit 11-17 for 144 yards with an interception with Charlie Callinan leading the BC receiving corps with four catches for 53 yards.

The Massachusetts Minutemen had one of the more impressive performances of opening day despite a 24-7 defeat at Florida as a 36 point underdog. The Minutemen were given no chance but trailed just 10-7 until finally succumbing to the physical Gators. The UMass defense held their own with 363 yards allowed but the offense wasn’t able to capitalize on 187 yards. Marquis Young was the UMass rushing attack with a 19 carry, 59 yard effort which wasn’t enough to scare the Florida defense and the passing game wasn’t able to pick up the slack. Ross Comis ran for the lone Minutemen touchdown but he connected on just 9-17 for 141 yards which wasn’t bad considering UF was putting the pressure on.
The Eagles are 2-0-2 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while the under is 4-0 in Eagles last 4 vs. a team with a losing record. The Minutemen are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win while the over is 7-1 in Minutemen last 8 games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous game. Ugly city here and for now I’ll back the Eagles and watch the line…
