The Illinois State Redbirds and Northwestern Wildcats play Saturday at Ryan Field.
The Illinois State Redbirds look for another victory after crushing Valparaiso opening week. Jake Kolbe is completing 57.9 percent of his passes for 166 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Kolbe must take care of the football in order for the Redbird to have a chance here. Spencer Schnell and Anthony Warrum have combined for 75 receiving yards on five catches while Anthony Fowler has one reception. The Illinois State Redbirds ground game is averaging 271 yards per contest, and George Moreira leads the way with 93 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Illinois State is allowing 13 points and 130 yards per game. Dalton Keene leads the Redbirds with seven tackles, B.J. Bello has two sacks and Alejandr Rivera has one interception.

The Northwestern Wildcats need a bounce back performance after losing a heartbreaker to Western Michigan. Clayton Thorson is completing 68.2 percent of his passes for 196 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. Thorson has one touchdown pass in his last three games. Austin Carr and Justin Jackson have combined for 122 receiving yards on seven catches while Garrett Dickerson has three receptions. The Northwestern Wildcats ground game is averaging 123 yards per contest, and Jackson leads the way with 124 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Northwestern is allowing 22 points and 416 yards per game. Jaylen Prater leads the Wildcats with 18 tackles, Brett Walsh has one sack and Godwin Igwebuike has one pass deflection.
Illinois State is no slouch, as it's a well coached club that's used to winning and has a physical rushing attack. The Redbirds won 10 games last season and competed against Iowa the opening week. However, Northwestern is still solid defensively and has a rushing attack that will give Illinois State problems. Also, the Wildcats outplayed Western Michigan last week and would have won if Thorson didn't fumble at the goal line.
This line is low. Give me Northwestern by two touchdowns.
