The Line: Duke Blue Devils -8.5 -- Over/Under: 45 See the Latest Odds

Over at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham on Saturday, September 10, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Duke Blue Devils will battle it out in Week 2 college football action.

Wake Forest secured an offensively unimpressive 7-3 victory against Tulane in Week 1, but it still counts as a W. The Demon Deacons bagged just 175 total yards in that one, with only 59 yards and three first downs coming in the second half. Despite losing the time of possession battle by nearly 10 minutes, Wake Forest’s defense was still able to hold strong. The lone touchdown came on the ground, with Kendall Hinton finding the end zone. Hinton would finish with eight carries for a team-high 24 yards. John Wolford put up a woeful 9-of-17 passing for just 79 yards. Matt Coburn was the team’s leading receiver in what little offense there was, grabbing two balls for 29 yards.

Duke also secured a win in Week 1, and they had a little more success on offense. The Blue Devils crushed North Carolina Central 49-6, guided by redshirt freshman QB Daniel Jones. Jones posted two passing touchdowns and ran for another. The score was 49-0 by halftime, and Duke could just cruise from there. Jela Duncan held down the fort in the running game, bagging 115 yards (matching a career-high) and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries. The lead receivers here were Jonathan Lloyd (62 yards) and Erich Schneider (37 yards) who each caught two balls and scored a touchdown.

The Demon Deacons are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games on grass, and 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a straight-up win. Wake Forest is also 0-4 ATS in their last four games in September, and 0-4 ATS in their last four games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.

As for the Blue Devils, they’re 4-1 ATS in their last five games in September, and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games following an ATS win. Duke is also 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games, and 0-4 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

Given Wake Forest’s offensive woes (that have lasted for years, really), I don’t think there’s any way they’re winning this game—or even getting close. I’ll take Duke in a blowout.
