The Line: Appalachian State Mountaineers +4 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

Headed our way on Saturday, September 17 in Week 3 college football action, the Miami Hurricanes will travel to Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

Miami comes in with a 2-0 record so far after dispatching Florida A&M and Florida Atlantic in convincing victories during Weeks 1 and 2. QB Brad Kaaya had something of an off game against the Owls in Week 2, throwing for 191 yards and two interceptions. Thankfully, RB Mark Walton was there to buoy the Hurricanes, as he ran for 155 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to help get the win over Florida Atlantic. On the season so far, Walton has amassed 32 totes for 271 yards and five touchdowns. Joseph Yearby isn’t far behind, as he’s sitting on 27 rushes for 226 yards and three touchdowns. There hasn’t been a whole lot of passing offense to go around, but the star receivers have been David Njoku (four receptions; 64 yards), Christopher Herndon (four receptions; 63 yards; TD) and Ammon Richards (five receptions; 61 yards; TD).

Over on the Mountaineers’ side, they’re sporting a 1-1 record coming into this game after a big 31-7 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs in Week 2. The big hero in that game was Marcus Cox, who turned his 18 carries into 133 yards and three touchdowns. That gives Cox 42 carries for 248 yards and three touchdowns on the season. QB Taylor Lamb has had some ups and downs so far, but he’s still 29-of-44 for 289 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Lamb’s main target has been Jaquil Capel, with seven total receptions for 85 yards. Deletion Hopkins is also playing well with eight grabs for 56 yards.

The Hurricanes are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, and 5-1 ATS in their last six games in September. Miami is also 0-4 ATS in their last four games on fieldturf, and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a straight up win.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last five September games, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven on fieldturf. Appalachian State is also 1-4 in their last five home games, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a straight up win of more than 20 points.

The Mountaineers don’t have a whole lot to brag about outside their running game, and if Miami can keep that under control the Hurricanes will have no troubles whatsoever here. I’ll take Miami to cover.
