The BYU Cougars couldn’t follow-up their victory to open the season against Arizona and dropped to 1-1 on the season after losing 20-19 against the Utah Utes this past Saturday. BYU had a chance to win as with 18 seconds left in the Taysom Hill got the Cougars within a point with a 7-yard TD run, however, BYU decided to go for the win with the two-point conversation and field. BYU was outgained by Utah by a 363-328 margin however, did win turnover battle by a 6-3 margin. Leading the way for BYU was QB as although he passed for just 176 yards and 3 INT, he was able to get 2 TD’s and 87 yards on the ground. Offensively, BYU is averaging 18.5 ppg on 371.5 total yards per game (193.5 passing, 178.0 rushing). Leading the way in the backfield is RB Jamall Williams who is averaging 110.0 yds/game on 20.5 att/game. Hill has down a nice job spreading the ball around to his receivers as BYU currently has 5 receivers that average between 22.0 & 40.0 yds/game. UCLA came into the season with high expectations behind QB Josh Rosen but has to still be disappointed with their OT loss to Texas A&M to open the season. BYU had a very good chance to beat their in-state rivals, Utah, on the road and although they fell just short, have to be thrilled with the defensive effort their team has shown over their first few games. There is no question that Josh Rosen is one of the best QB’s in the country however, I think Rosen will have his hands full with BYU in this game and although Taysom Hill hasn’t played outstanding this season, I think he’ll do enough against and average ULCA defense to give the BYU Cougars a solid chance to get the victory at home. Take BYU and the points in this one.
