Coming up on Saturday, September 17 from Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, the Old Dominion Monarchs will visit the North Carolina State Wolfpack in Week 3 college football activity.
Old Dominion comes into this game with a 1-1 record, following a big win over Hampton 54-21 and a loss to Appalachian State 31-7 in Week 2. In that game, the Monarchs couldn’t contain Marcus Cox, who ran for 133 yards and three touchdowns in the first half—all coming after long drives that kept Old Dominion off the field. The lone score the Monarchs could muster came in the second half with a Ray Lawry rushing score. Lawry would finish with 119 yards and the TD on 15 carries. Monarchs QB David Washington posted a tepid 16-of-34 line for 152 yards and a pick. On the season, Washington’s stats look a little better with 339 yards and four touchdowns. Lawry is king of the rushing game with his 229 yards and two scores, while Zach Pascal leads the way in receiving with nine catches for 119 yards and one TD.

As for North Carolina State, they head into Week 3 with a 1-1 record as well. The Wolfpack beat up on William & Mary in Week 1 48-14, and lost a heartbreaker 33-30 to East Carolina in Week 2. During that game, NC State allowed the go-ahead touchdown with 5:49 left in the game, and couldn’t respond with a score of their own to keep the contest going. The Wolfpack’s Ryan Finley finished Week 2 with a 20-of-31 line, 254 yards and a TD. Matthew Dayes also had a pretty good showing on the ground with 14 carries for 103 yards. On the season, things look a little rosier with Finley’s 428 yards and three touchdowns, as well as Dayes’ 37 carries for 241 yards and two scores. Stephen Louis leads the way in receiving with four grabs for 146 yards and a TD.
The Monarchs are 4-1 ATS in their last five games on grass, and 6-15-1 in their last 22 games overall. Old Dominion is also 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games in September.
As for the Wolfpack, they’re 8-1 ATS in their last nine September games, and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. North Carolina State is also 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall, and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games.
The Wolfpack is going to be treating this as a bounce-back game following what should have been a victory, and they’ll be ready to go. I like North Carolina State to win big here.
