Jalin Moore was the Appalachian State rushing attack with 89 yards on 23 carries but Miami could not bet stopped in the air with Brad Kaaya throwing for 368 yards and three scores.

The Akron Zips rebounded from a poor performance a week ago to absolutely obliterate Marshall 65-38 on the road to improve to 2-1. A 34 point second quarter sent gave the Zips a 41-21 lead at the half as a 17.5 point underdog. The Thundering Herd held a slight 560-524 yardage the Zips scored on a pick six, fumble return and blocked punt while forcing four turnovers overall. Akron quarterback Thomas Woodson had a field day, going 21-32 for 379 yards with four touchdowns with Jojo Natson and Jerome Lane catching seven passes apiece for a combined 249 yards. Manny Morgan paced the Zips rushing attack with 130 yards on 18 carries but good fortune certainly had a hand in their success.
