The Miami (OH) Redhawks will travel to Nippert Stadium to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats this Saturday afternoon.
The Miami (OH) Redhawks fought the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers hard but fell to 0-3 (0-0 MAC) on the season after losing 31-24 this past Saturday. Miami (OH) was down by a 24-3 margin midway through the 3rd quarter but cut the lead to just 7-points after a late 4th quarter TD, however, couldn’t recover the onside kick to give the Redhawks a chance to tie it. Miami (OH) outgained Western Kentucky by a 424-404 margin and won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin. Leading the way for the Redhawks was QB Billy Bahl who completed 20 of 41 passes for 339 yards and 2 TD. On the season, Miami (OH) is averaging 20.7 ppg on 415.0 total yards per game (285.0 passing, 130.0 rushing). QB Billy Bahl has completed 56.5% of his passes for 6 TD and an INT while averaging 285.0 passing yds/game. Bahl’s primary targets at the receiver position have been WR James Gardner (4.0 rec/game, 81.7 yds/game, 4 TD) and WR Rokeem Williams (4.0 rec/game, 94.0 yds/game, TD). The Redhawks backfield consists of RB Alonzo Smith (16.67 att/game, 62.0 yds/game, TD) and Kenny Young (10.33 att/game, 41.33 yds/game). The Cincinnati Bearcats fell to 2-1 (0-1 AAC) on the season after being defeated by the 6th ranked Houston Cougars, 40-16, this past Thursday night. Cincinnati played the Cougars tough and actually had a 16-12 lead early in the 4th quarter before allowing Houston to score 28 unanswered points. Cincinnati was outgained by Houston by a 506-307 margin and committed 3 turnovers, two of them which we returned for TD’s, in the loss. Leading the way for Cincinnati was QB Hayden Moore who completed 21 of 37 passes for 275 yards, 2 TD’s, and 2 INT. On the season, Cincinnati is averaging 27.3 ppg on 406.3 total yards (262.3 passing, 144.0 rushing). QB Hayden Moore is the focal point of the Bearcats offense and has completed 59.2% of his passes of the season with 7 TD’s and 3 INT while averaging 261.7 passing yds/game. The Bearcats backfield is led by the RB duo of Tion Green (13.33 att/game, 54.67 yds/game) and Mike Boone (10.0 att/game, 47.33 yds/game). Cincinnati has a very talented receiving core led by Devin Gray (4.3 rec/game, 88.0 yds/game, TD) and Nate Cole (7.0 rec/game, 68.3 yds/game, 4 TD). Defensively, Cincinnati is holding their opponents to an average of 22.3 ppg on 444.3 total yards per game (291.0 passing, 153.3 rushing).
The Redhawks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Bearcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss however, just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Miami (OH) is a very young team however, even being 0-3, has to be somewhat encouraged by their solid effort at home against a very good Western Kentucky team. Cincinnati has to be disappointed after letting a golden opportunity slip through their fingers with a poor 4th quarter showing against Houston, however, Cincinnati has shown that they arguably the best team in the AAC outside of Houston. Miami (OH) is playing much better than what I expected to see out of them to start the season, however, as I think Hayden Moore will be able to put up solid numbers in the passing game against the Redhawks, along with the fact that Miami (OH) should struggle against a stout Bearcats defense, I’m going to take Cincinnati to cover this large home spread. Take Cincinnati to cover.
