The Utah State Aggies will travel to Albertsons Stadium to take on the 24th ranked Boise State Broncos this Saturday night in College Football action.
The Utah State Aggies fell to 2-2 (0-1 MW) on the season after being defeated by the Air Force Falcons, 27-20, this past Saturday. Utah State played the Falcons tough but couldn’t come back after falling behind 24-13 with just over five minutes left to play. Utah State outgained Air Force by a 414-326 margin however, lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Aggies was WR Ron’Quavion Tarver who had 9 receptions for 143 yards. On the season, Utah State is averaging 26.5 ppg on 382.3 total yards per game (203.0 passing, 179.3 rushing). Offensively, Utah State is led by the backfield duo of Devante Mays (9.0 att/game, 78.0 yds/game, 3 TD) and Tonny Lindsey (12.75 att/game, 50.0 yds/game, 3 TD). QB Kent Myers has completed 60.3% of his passes for 3 TD and 3 INT while averaging 200.0 passing yds/game. Myers main targets at the receiver positions have been WR Ron’Quavion Tarver (4.0 rec/game, 51.0 yds/game, TD), WR Rayshad Lewis (3.0 rec/game, 46.3 yds/game, TD), and TE Wyatt Houston (2.8 rec/game, 24.3 yds/game, TD). The 24th Boise State Broncos improved to 3-0 (0-0 MW) after defeating the Oregon State Beavers, 38-24, this past Saturday. Boise State was able to get out early 31-7 halftime lead and was able secure victory even though their offense didn’t put up many points in the 2nd half. Boise State outgained Oregon State by a 512-287 margin however, lost the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for the Broncos was RB Jeremy McNichols who rushed for 208 yards and combined for 4 overall TD’s (3 rushing, 1 receiving). On the season, Boise State is averaging 38.0 ppg on 505.3 total yards per game (321.0 passing, 184.3 rushing). Offensively, the Broncos have been led by RB Jeremy McNichols who has 7 rushing TD’s while averaging 124.0 rushing yds/game. McNichols has also been getting it done as a receiver as he had 2 TD’s while average 3.3 rec/game and 47.7 yds/game. QB Brett Rypien has completed 57.7% of his passes for 4 TD and 3 INT while averaging 287.0 yds/game. Thomas Sperbeck (6.3 rec/game, 122.3 yds/game, 2 TD) and Cedrick Wilson (4.0 rec/game, 73.0 yds/game, TD) have been the biggest weapons for Rypien at the WR positions. Defensively, Boise State is holding their opponents to an average of 20.7 ppg on 358.0 total yards per game (285.7 passing, 72.3 rushing).
The Aggies are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games in October however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games. The Broncos are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on field turf and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Boise State has some of best offensive weapons in the Mountain West in RB Jeremy McNichols and QB Brett Rypien. Utah State was able to get a surprising 52-26 victory against Boise State last year however, I think the Broncos defense gets some revenge in this matchup and slows down the Aggies offense enough for the Broncos to cover this spread. Take Boise State to cover.
