The Ohio Bobcats battle MAC rival the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks in week five action.
The Miami (Ohio) Redhawks gave Cincinnati all they could handle before falling 27-20. The Bearcats won the yardage battle 461-317 but lost the turnover battle 3-2. The Redhawks biggest problem was under 24 minutes of possession which can be attributed to very little running and milking the clock. Kenny Young was the Redhawks rushing attack with 51 yards on eleven carries and there were no other options. Miami (Ohio) quarterback Billy Bahl had a productive day in the air, going 13-24 for 252 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception with Jared Murphy hauling in a 58 yard TD. The Redhawks special teams were involved as well with Murphy returning a punt 49 yards while Maurice Thomas recorded a 94 yard kick return.

The Ohio Bobcats defeated FCS squad Gardner-Webb 37-21 in a game many expected to be more of a mismatch on the scoreboard. The truth is that the Bobcats led 30-7 after 30 minutes and the game was over from a competitive standpoint. Ohio employed two quarterbacks in Quinton Maxwell and Greg Windham who completed a combined 25-38 for 310 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Sebastian Smith was the Bobcats receiver of choice six receptions for 108 yards including a pair of scores. The Ohio rushing attack was three pronged with Bo Hardy, Windham and Papi White combining for 173 yards and two scores on 34 totes.
I am a big Ohio fan and I know Frank Solich has been counted out many times but usually has his team prepared and the results speak for themselves. The Redhawks look improved but I’m not really sure but a good performance against the Bobcats would go a long way in convincing me…
