The Temple Owls will travel to the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium to take on the Memphis Tigers this Thursday night in College Football action.

The Temple Owls improved to 3-2 (1-0 AAC) on the season after defeating the SMU Mustangs, 45-20, this past Saturday. Temple jumped out early against SMU and had little trouble securing the victory after going up 35-14 at halftime. Temple outgained SUM by a 365-288 margin and won the turnover battle by a 4-3 margin. Leading the way for the Owls was RB Ryquell Armstead who had 2 TD’s and 159 rushing yards on 15 carries. On the season, Temple is averaging 34.2 ppg on 350.2 total yards per game (199.8 passing, 150.4 rushing). Offensively, the Owls have been led by the strong rushing duo of Ryquell Armstead (10.4 att/g, 62.6 yds/g, 6 TD) and Jahad Thomas (15.0 att/g, 66.7 yds/g, 6 TD). QB Phillip Walker has completed 55.1% of his passes for 6 TD and 7 INT while averaging 194.0 passing yds/g. Temple’s biggest threats at the receiver positions have been WR Keith Kirkwood (3.4 rec/g, 46.4 yds/g, 2 TD), WR Brodrick Yancy (2.0 rec/g, 24.4 yds/g, 2 TD), and TE Romond Deloatch (1.4 rec/g, 33.4 yds/g). Defensively, Temple is holding their opponents to an average of 20.4 ppg on 319.4 total yards per game (156.6 passing, 162.8 rushing). Temple has forced an impressive 12 turnovers from their opponents in their first 5 games and currently has a turnover margin of plus 4 on the season.

Memphis vs. Temple - 10/6/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Memphis Tigers lost their first game of the season and dropped to 3-1 (0-0 C-USA) on the year after being defeated by the 16th ranked Ole Miss Rebels, 48-28, this past Saturday. Memphis had no answers when it came to slowing down the Ole Miss offense and couldn’t overcome a 24-7 halftime deficit. Memphis was outgained by Ole Miss by a 624-474 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 4-1 margin. Leading the way for the Tigers was WR Anthony Miller who had 10 receptions for 132 yards while also adding a rushing TD. On the season, Memphis is averaging 45.8 ppg on 477.0 total yards (308.5 passing, 168.5 rushing). Offensively, the Tigers have been led by QB Riley Ferguson who has completed 66.4% of his passes for 11 TD and 5 INT while averaging 296.5 passing yds/g. Ferguson’s main targets this season have been WR Anthony Miller (6.8 rec/g, 101.3 yds/g, 2 TD), WR Phil Mayhue (3.5 rec/g, 49.0 yds/g, 2 TD), and WR Daniel Hurd (2.0 rec/g, 25.0 yds/g). Leading the Tigers backfield has been Doroland Dorceus (11.0 att/g, 62.5 yds/g, 4 TD) and RB Patrick Taylor Jr. (7.5 att/g, 59.8 yds/g, TD). Defensively, Memphis is holding their opponents to an average of 18.8 ppg on 371.3 total yards per game (225.0 passing, 146.3 rushing). Memphis has forced 12 turnovers this season (8 INT) and currently has a plus 5 turnover margin.

The Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in October. The Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Temple started off a bit shaky this season but has seemed to find their rhythm as of late and has looked more like the impressive 2015 team that won games with a strong defense and solid rushing attack. Memphis has put up some big numbers so far this season, however, before playing Ole Miss, the Tigers hadn’t played the toughest of competition with games against SE Missouri State, Kansas, and Bowling Green. Memphis still has a lot of offensive weapons but this is not the same offensive that we saw last season with Paxton Lynch at QB. Temple has the 13th ranked passing defense in the country this season and I think as long as if the Owls can stick to their run game and limit their turnovers, Temple will be able to keep this one within the number. Take Temple and the points.
