The Tulsa Golden Hurricane welcome the Southern Methodist Mustangs to town in week six.
The Southern Methodist Mustangs have struggled on both sides of the ball the past two weeks which has resulted in consecutive defeats. The Mustangs come off a 45-20 loss at Temple where they fell behind early and never regained their footing. The defense gave up 368 yards and forced three turnovers including a pick six but SMU mustered 288 yards and gave the ball away four times. The Mustangs never established the run with Ke’Mon Freemon’s 49 yards on 12 carries being the best the team could muster. Mustangs quarterback Ben Hicks connected on 22-42 for 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions so mistakes negated the positives.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane come off a bye week which probably came at a good time. The Golden Hurricane entered their bye off a 48-41 overtime win at Fresno State as a 17 point road favorite and the Bulldogs aren’t known for their offense. Tulsa owned a healthy 617-463 yardage edge and were able to both run and throw effectively. Tulsa quarterback Dane Evans completed 22-32 for 273 yards and four touchdowns with an interception with Josh Atkinson leading all receivers with ten catches for 107 yards and a score while Keevan Lucas recorded six receptions for 103 yards and a pair of TD’s. The Golden Hurricane were unstoppable on the ground with D’Angelo Brewer carrying the ball 46 times for 252 yards while James Flanders totaled 101 yards on 13 totes with a trip to the endzone.
The under is 4-0 in SMU last 4 games on fieldturf and SMU are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 conference games while SMU are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games in October. Tulsa are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game and Tulsa are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss while the over is 4-0 in Tulsa’s last 4 conference games. The underdog is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 meetings and is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Tulsa while SMU are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Tulsa.
I think the Golden Hurricane have a monster offense that will have SMU on their heels and needing to match scores to have a chance but I believe Tulsa’s punter won’t see much action…
