Headed our way in college football action from Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on Saturday, October 8, we’ve got a Week 5 matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
The Irish needed a win last week against Stanford, and they got it 50-33. Notre Dame’s defense was quite shaky in the first half, but the offense was able to carry the load in the meantime. In that game, Irish QB Deshone Kizer threw for 471 yards on a 23-of-35 line for three touchdowns and a pick. Josh Adams led a solid Notre Dame running game with 20 carries for 102 yards, and Equanimeous St. Brown pulled in four catches for 182 yards and two scores.

So far for the Irish this year, Kizer is 95-of-151 for 1567 yards and 14 touchdowns. Adams leads the way for Notre Dame on the ground with 67 carries and 340 yards on the ground, while St. Brown has totaled 25 receptions for 541 yards and six TDs.
As for the Wolfpack, they’re coming in at 3-1 following a big 33-16 win over Wake Forest. North Carolina State suffered from several stinging penalties in this one, but powered through with 527 yards against one of the tougher defenses in the nation. NC State QB Ryan Finley would finish with a 23-of-36 line for 300 yards and three scores, while RB Matthew Dayes also played well on 24 carries for 125 yards and a score. The Wolfpack’s Stephen Louis led the team in receiving with four grabs for 102 yards.

Notre Dame is 8-3 ATS versus a team with a winning record, and 35-16-2 ATS in their last 53 October games. Notre Dame is also 2-5 ATS in they last seven games on grass, and 0-4 ATS in their last four games following an ATS loss.
As for North Carolina State, they’re 9-2 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games, and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win. NC State is also 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a straight-up win, and 4-9 ATS in their hast 13 games in October.
To Notre Dame’s credit, they’ve been “in” every game they’ve played this year so far, and with the exception of the Michigan State game, their other two losses have come by just three points apiece. There are some very winnable games coming up on the Irish schedule, and this is one of them. This is basically a pick ‘em matchup, and I’ll take Notre Dame to eke out a victory here and even their record back up to .500.
