Coming up on Saturday, October 8 from Heinz Field, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Pittsburgh Panthers will be meeting up in Week 6 college football action.
Georgia Tech comes into this game at an unsteady 3-2 following a pair of losses. The Yellow Jackets’ most recent defeat came last Saturday against the Hurricanes 35-21. A pair of fumbles returned for touchdowns did Georgia Tech in, and they failed to score in either the first or fourth quarters. Jackets QB Justin Thomas had a forgettable day with just 94 yards, a TD and an interception, but RB Dedrick Mills fared a little better on the ground with 19 carries for 99 yards and two scores.

So far this season for the Yellow Jackets, Thomas has produced 458 yards passing for two touchdowns and one interception. Mills has been Georgia Tech’s workhorse on 67 carries for 300 yards and seven touchdowns, while Ricky Jeune holds nine receptions for 121 yards.
Over on the Pittsburgh side, they’re coming in at 3-2 as well, breaking a string of two straight losses with a win over Marshall last Saturday 43-27. In that game, the Panthers held a four-touchdown lead at one point but had to stave off a rally toward the end. Pittsburgh QB Nathan Peterman had a solid game at 17-of-23 with 280 yards and two touchdowns, while Chawntez Moss emerged as the rushing leader with 12 carries for 97 yards. Jester Weah led the Panthers in receiving with seven grabs for 176 yards and one touchdown.
On the year, Peterman has provided Pittsburgh with 923 yards and eight touchdowns, while James Conner leads things on the ground with 90 carries for 381 yards and five scores. Weah is the high man among the receiving corps with 14 grabs for 313 yards and three touchdowns for Pittsburgh.
The Yellow Jackets are 1-5 ATS in their last six games in October, and 1-5-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Yellow Jackets are also 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games on grass, and 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 conference games.
As for Pittsburgh, they’re 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss, and 1-4 ATS in their last five games in October. Pittsburgh is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games on grass, and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall.
I will give the Jackets credit for beating the teams they’re supposed to beat so far this year, but they’ve predictably fallen against stouter squads out there. Georgia Tech’s one-sided offense isn’t going to help them against Pittsburgh, however, and unless the Panthers come out and fall flat on their faces I think this will be a Pittsburgh victory—and a relatively large one. The line is a little thick here for my liking (so I would normally stay away), but the Panthers should cover.
