The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Georgia Bulldogs face off on Sunday in a Week 6 SEC rivalry college football matchup.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are 2-3 this season and have lost back-to-back games. The South Carolina offense is averaging 14 points and 301.8 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 6 times. Gamecocks QB Brandon McIlwain has completed 52.8 percent of his passes with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception and he has rushed for 2 touchdowns. A.J Turner leads the South Carolina rushing attack with 270 yards and 2 touchdowns while Hayden Hurst has 24 receptions and Bryan Edwards has 17 receptions. The South Carolina defense is allowing 18.6 points and 403.8 yards per game with 5 interceptions, 4 fumble recoveries, and 10 sacks. D.J. Smith has 32 tackles to lead the Gamecocks, T.J. Holloman has 30 tackles, and Darius English has 5 sacks. South Carolina just doesn’t generate enough offense to compete with the better teams in the SEC.

The Georgia Bulldogs are 3-2 this season and are coming off of back-to-back losses. The Georgia offense is averaging 26.4 points and 408.8 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 9 times. Bulldog QB Jacob Eason has completed 53.6 percent of his passes with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Nick Chubb is Georgia’s top running back but he is banged up and Brian Herrien and Sony Michel are seeing the bulk of the action while Isaiah Mckenzie is the top receiver with 24 catches and 4 touchdowns. Defensively Georgia is allowing 30.8 points and 377.8 yards per game with 7 interceptions, 5 fumble recoveries, and 6 sacks. Natrez Patrick leads the Dawgs with 34 tackles, Trenton Thompson has 26 tackles, and Maurice Smith and Aaron Davis have 23 tackles each. Georgia’s Head Coach Kirby Smart is supposed to be a defensive genius but he can’t get any pressure on opposing QB’s yet his QB is getting drilled in the pocket to the tune of 15 sacks making it tough to beat the better teams.
South Carolina is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread following a double digit home loss, and 2-6 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. Georgia is 1-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 6-2 against the spread following a loss, and 205 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. The home team has covered the point spread in the last 4 meetings of these two teams.
Georgia appears to be in deep trouble as a football program as they have a big investment in a Head Coach who might be no better than a good coordinator at executing someone else’s game plan. Smart has been terrible even in the wins over using Chubb in the opener to the tune of 32 carries basically killing his superstar’s season, a home struggle against FCS Nicholls State, and then in their most recent loss he changed personnel on the final play but the key players were out of position being all of the defenders being behind the receiver resulting the ball having a clear path. While Georgia may win this one, it’s going to be ugly and look for a tight game that I wouldn’t be shocked if South Carolina won outright. Regardless, Georgia may be in for several tough seasons.
