The Georgia Bulldogs and the Vanderbilt Commodores face off on Saturday in a week 7 SEC college football battle.
The Georgia Bulldogs are 4-2 this season as they ended a 2 game losing streak with a win over South Carolina on Sunday. Georgia has had it’s share of shaky moments so far overcoming many of them but they have a short week of preparation as they played on Sunday due to their game being moved back a day. The Georgia offense is averaging 26.7 points and 399.8 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 10 times. Bulldog QB Jacob Eason has completed 51.2 percent of his passes with 8 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and while he appears to have all of the tools he sometimes looks very much like a true freshman with his decision making. Nick Chubb is Georgia’s top running back but he has been injured plenty leaving Brian Herrian and Sony Michel to pick up the slack while Isaiah McKenzie is far and away the top receiver with 26 catches and 5 touchdowns. Defensively Georgia is allowing 28 points and 367.8 yards per game with 8 interceptions, 7 fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks. Natrez Patrick leads the Dawgs with 36 tackles, Roquan Smith has 33 tackles, and Aaron Davis and Trenton Thompson each have 27 tackles. Georgia will continue to have growing pains with Eason at QB and they are very much in need of finding a way to get pressure on opposing QB’s.

The Vanderbilt Commodores are 2-4 this season and they have lost 3 of their last 4 games. Vandy has lost all 3 of their SEC games this season and they are 1-2 on the road. The Vanderbilt offense is averaging 19 points and 299.5 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 7 times. Commodores QB Kyle Shurmer has completed 52.8 percent of his passes with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Ralph Webb is Vandy’s leading rusher with 682 yards and 5 touchdowns and Kalija Lipscomb and C.J. Duncan are the top receivers with 17 catches each. The Vanderbilt defense is allowing 23 points and 392.2 yards per game with 4 interceptions, 7 fumble recoveries, and 5 sacks. Zach Cunningham leads Vanderbilt in tackles with 62, LaDarius Wiley has 41 tackles, and Ryan White has 36 tackles. At this point Vanderbilt would be hard pressed to make it to a bowl game this year.
Georgia is 3-7 against the spread following a win, 4-1 against the spread on grass, and 4-1 against the spread after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. Vanderbilt is 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 SEC games, 18-6 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 6-2 against the spread following a loss. The home team has covered the point spread in 5 of the last 6 meetings of these two teams.
I am not sold on Georgia this year so while I see them winning, I see them struggling plenty. Vandy doesn’t throw the ball well and that costs them again here but the Commodores keep it close enough to cover the spread.
