Coming up in ACC activity as part of college football Week 8 on Saturday, October 22, we’ve got a nice matchup looming between the Syracuse Orange and the Boston College Eagles.
Syracuse comes into this game with a 3-4 record this year, but won their most recent game 31-17 against Virginia Tech this past Saturday. In that one, Orange QB Eric Dungey was all over the place, accounting for 311 pass yards with a TD and 106 rush yards with another TD. Ervin Phillips helped out the Syracuse cause with his 11 catches for 139 yards and a score.
So far this year for the Orange, Dungey holds a 192-of-308 line for 2197 yards and 12 TDs, while Dontae Strickland leads the way in rushing with 102 carries for 412 yards and two scores. In the receiving game, Amba Etta-Tawo is tops for Syracuse with 56 receptions for 930 yards and six scores.
Over on the Boston College side, they’re coming into this weekend’s game with a 3-3 record and are fresh off getting maimed by Clemson 56-10. The Eagles’ Patrick Towles had a pretty bad day on 11-of-22 passing for 91 yards and a TD, while Davon Jones led the way in rushing with 12 carries for 48 yards.
On the Eagles’ season so far, Towles holds a 66-of-130 mark with 897 yards and a 7:3 TD:INT ratio. Jon Hillman is tops in the Boston College running game on 99 carries for 337 yards and five TDs, while Jeff Smith leads the receivers with 15 catches for 259 yards and three scores.
The under is 4-0 in Syracuse’s last four games after accumulating more than 450 yards total in their previous game, and the over is 5-0 in Syracuse’s last five games following a straight-up win. Syracuse is also 1-6 ATS in their last seven games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
As for Boston College, they’re 0-5-1 ATS in their last six conference games, and 4-0 in their last four games following an ATS loss. The under is also 4-0 in Boston College’s last four games following a bye week.
Syracuse hasn’t shown much consistency this year, other than following the “win one, drop two” formula through seven games so far. The Orange lose big when they lose, giving up at least 45 points in three of four defeats. As for Boston College, they’ve given up at least 49 points in two of their three losses, but do seem dominant in their wins. I like the Eagles offense to turn it up here and get Boston College a convincing victory.
