The Virginia Tech Hokies and Pittsburgh Panthers play a key ACC college football game Saturday night at Heinz Field on ESPN.
The Virginia Tech Hokies look for their second road victory to remain in the ACC Coastal division race. The Virginia Tech Hokies also become bowl eligible for the 24th straight season with a victory here. Jerod Evans is completing 62.9 percent of his passes for 1,611 yards, 19 touchdowns and two interceptions. Evans has two or more touchdown passes in five straight games. Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips have combined for 910 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Bucky Hodges has 25 receptions. The Virginia Tech Hokies ground game is averaging 197.5 yards per contest, and Travon McMillian leads the way with 458 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Virginia Tech is allowing 17.9 points and 302 yards per game. Andrew Motuapuaka leads the Virginia Tech Hokies with 59 tackles, Ken Ekanem has 4.5 sacks and Terrell Edmunds has three interceptions.

The Pittsburgh Panthers look for their fourth straight victory to also become bowl eligible. The Pittsburgh Panthers have not won a game against a ranked team since their 2013 win over Notre Dame. Nathan Peterman is completing 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,252 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. Peterman has moved the chains through the air 61 times this season. Jester Weah and Scott Orndoff have combined for 630 receiving yards and six touchdowns while James Conner has 15 receptions. The Pittsburgh Panthers ground game is averaging 239.1 yards per contest, and Conner leads the way with 531 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Pittsburgh is allowing 31.4 points and 395.4 yards per game. Ryan Lewis leads the Pittsburgh Panthers with 42 tackles, Ejuan Price has nine sacks and Jordan Whitehead has one interception.
The Hokies are 22-10 ATS in their last 32 Thursday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Panthers are 5-17 ATS in their last 22 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October. The Hokies are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Pittsburgh and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 meetings overall.
The Pittsburgh Panthers have the best offensive line in the ACC and have the defensive line to give Evans trouble in the pocket. While everyone likes to back Virginia Tech because of its physical style of play, Pittsburgh can match that. In fact, the Panthers have won the last two games against the Hokies and have held Virginia Tech to a combined 29 points in those contests. I like Pittsburgh to win this game outright, but I'd take the free points just to be on the safe side.
