Coming up on Saturday, October 29 from David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, the Louisville Cardinals will be visiting the Virginia Cavaliers in Week 9 ACC college football action.

The Cardinals have been cruising quite well this year, and they’ll be coming in with a 6-1 record following a 54-13 beatdown of North Carolina State in their last outing. Louisville QB Lamar Jackson went 20-of-34 for 355 yards and three touchdowns in that one, and also led the team in rushing with 17 carries for 76 yards and another TD. Cole Hikutini led the Cardinals in receiving with six catches for 118 yards and a score.

So far this year, Jackson leads Louisville in rushing with 130 carries for 908 yards and a whopping 16 touchdowns, and is 134-of-230 through the air for 2131 yards and 18 scores. James Quick is the Cardinals’ leading receiver on 32 catches for 523 yards and four TDs.

Over on the Virginia side, they’re entering play here with a floundering 2-5 record, fresh off a 35-14 loss to North Carolina. In that one, Virginia QB Kurt Benkert went 19-of-32 for 126 yards, with most of the receiving work going to Taquan Mizzell, who led a tepid corps with seven receptions for just 25 yards. On the ground, Mizzell was a little better for the Cavaliers with his 19 carries for 106 yards and a TD.

On the season thus far for Virginia, Benkert is 158-of-275 for 1859 yards and a 14:7 TD:INT ratio. Mizzell leads the Cavaliers runners with 83 carries for 461 yards and four scores, while Olamide Zaccheaus holds 31 receptions for 439 yards and five TDs.

The Cardinals are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games following an ATS win, and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games following a straight-up win. Louisville is also 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games overall, and 28-12-1 ATS in their last 41 road games.

Meanwhile, Virginia is 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up loss, and 7-2 ATS in their last nine conference games. Virginia is also 6-2 ATS versus a team with a winning record, and 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Louisville will win this game; the question is by how much. With the Cardinals scoring at least 36 points in six of their seven games so far, I imagine they’ll be putting up a lot of lights on the scoreboard here. Virginia simply isn’t equipped well enough on defense to prevent that much of an onslaught, so I’ll take Louisville to cover.
