The Line: Alabama Crimson Tide -28.5 -- Over/Under:
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa in week 11 SEC college football action.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are 9-0 this season and they are the top ranked team in the nation as they continue in their pursuit of back-to-back National Championships. Alabama is coming off of a hard fought win over LSU where their offense faced the stiffest resistance they have seen all season and for the season they are averaging 40.1 points and 478.6 yards per game. Crimson Tide QB Jalen Hurts has completed 62.3 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions and he has rushed for 635 yards and 10 touchdowns. Damien Harris is Alabama’s top rusher with 750 yards and a touchdown and Calvin Ridley is the top receiver with 46 catches and 5 touchdowns and ArDarius Stewart has 31 catches and 4 touchdowns. The Alabama defense is allowing 13.2 points and 257.9 yards per game with 9 interceptions, 8 fumble recoveries, and 37 sacks. Reuben Foster is Alabama’s top tackler with 64, Shaun Dion Hamilton has 47 tackles, and Jonathan Allen has 7 sacks and has dominated the line of scrimmage. Alabama appears to be a force and undoubtedly the road to the National Title goes through them.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 4-5 this season and they are coming off of a monster win at home against Texas A&M. The MSU offense is averaging 30.9 points and 446.1 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 14 times. Bulldogs QB Nick Fitzgerald has completed 56.3 percent of his passes with 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions and he has rushed for 839 yards and 8 touchdowns. Aeris Williams is Mississippi State’s top running back with 346 yards and 2 touchdowns and Fred Ross is the leading receiver with 54 catches and 9 touchdowns. The Mississippi State defense is allowing 29.8 points and 414.6 yards per game with 10 interceptions, 7 fumble recoveries, and 20 sacks. Richie Brown leads the Bulldogs in tackles with 76, Leo Lewis has 60 tackles, and Jonathan Calvin has 5 sacks. Mississippi State’s confidence is high but they will need some help from the Tide to get the win in this one.
Alabama is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games, 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 home games, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Mississippi State is 1-4 against the spread following game that they covered the point spread and 17-8 against the spread in their last 25 SEC games.
This one is a tough call because Mississippi State just isn’t a good team but this is so many points. I just don’t see MSU’s offense being able to move the ball so the route may be on.
