The Idaho State Bobcats will travel to Romney Stadium to take on the Utah State Aggies this Thursday night in College Football action.

The Idaho State Bobcats opened their 2017 season on a winning note after defeating the D-II Western Oregon Wolves, 37-6, this past Thursday. Idaho State found themselves down by a 6-3 margin at halftime, however, outscored the Wolves by a 34-0 margin in the 2nd half to pull away for the victory. Idaho State outgained Western Oregon by a 431-299 margin and held the Bobcats to -3 rushing yards in the win. Leading the way for the Bobcats was QB Tanner Gueller who completed 20 of 33 passes for 3 TD and 2 INT. Idaho State have struggled as of late finishing just 2-9 in each of the last two seasons, and although the Bobcats did get a convincing win to kick off the season, this is still a team ranked last in both scoring offense and scoring defense in the Big Sky last season. Head coach Rob Phenicie is certainly in rebuilding mode after losing 18 seniors from last year’s team however, does have some experience with QB Tanner Gueller and RB Ty Flanagan who both perfomed well in the Bobcats season opener.

Utah State Aggies vs. Idaho State Bengals - 9/7/17 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Utah State Aggies had no answers in their season opener and fell to 0-1 on the season after being defeated by the 9th ranked Wisconsin Badgers, 59-10, this past Friday. Utah State played the Badgers tough early and went in to halftime tied at 10, however, the Aggies had no answers for Wisconsin in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after the Badgers scored 28 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter. Utah State was outgained by Wisconsin by a 478-304 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 4-2 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Aggies RB LaJuan Hunt who had 27 yards and TD on 7 carries while also catching 4 receptions for 14 yards. Utah State returned just 10 total starters from a team that finished 3-9 last season and hope that they can find some more answers on the offensive end after finishing 108th in scoring offense in 2016. Utah State hopes that offense can find some success with Senior QB Kent Myers who finished last season completing 58.4% of his passes for 10 TD and 8 INT while averaging 199.1 passing yds/game. Myers has some experience at the WR position as both Ron’Quavion Tarver (3.8 rec/g, 50.2 yds/g, 3 TD) and Rayshad Lewis (3.3 rec/g, 39.7 yds/g, 2 TD) return for the Aggies. Utah State have some question marks on both the offensive and defensive lines, however, the Aggies secondary, led by Jalen Davis, should be one of the better secondaries in the Mountain West.

The Bobcats are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games however, are 0-5 SU in their last 5 games on the road. The Aggies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games at home.

The line has yet to be posted for this matchup and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see a number on this one as Idaho State is just not projected to be any sort of a threat in the FCS Big Sky Conference. I would have to see how big the number is to make a pick but as Utah State has some experience on the offense side and should be able to slow down any passing game that Idaho State has, my initial thoughts would be to side with the Aggies. Please check back when/if a line is posted.
