Out at McLane Stadium in Waco on Saturday, September 9, the UT San Antonio Roadrunners will be meeting up with the Baylor Bears in Week 2 college football action.
The Roadrunners come into this game having not taken the field yet. UT San Antonio was originally scheduled to open things up against the Houston Cougars on September 2, but due to the recent hurricane and flood conditions in Texas that game was postponed.
USA TODAY Sports
In 2016, the Roadrunners finished at 6-7 overall and 5-3 in Conference USA play. UT San Antonio was invited to their first-ever bowl game to cap off the season, but they fell in the New Mexico Bowl to the Lobos 23-20.
Over on the Baylor side, they’re looking for answers after a shocking 48-45 upset defeat at the hands of Liberty in Week 1. QB Anu Solomon went 14-of-29 for 278 yards, three touchdowns and a pick while also leading Baylor in rushing with six carries for 97 yards. Still, that makes seven straight regular-season game losses for Baylor after they started 6-0 last year. The loss also snaps a 19-game regular-season win streak against non-conference opponents.
The Bears are coming off a 7-6 overall mark in 2016, going 3-6 in the Big 12. Baylor was able to finish the year on a high note, bagging a 31-12 Cactus Bowl win over Boise State.
The Roadrunners are 4-0 ATS in their last four games on grass, and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. UT San Antonio is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven games in September and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine road games.
Meanwhile, the Bears are 6-1 ATS in their last seven versus CUSA and 30-13 ATS in their last 43 home games. Baylor is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games on grass.
Neither one of these teams will likely have their minds on the game this weekend. UT San Antonio’s thoughts will be with the situation surrounding the weather in Texas which forced the postponement of their opener, and Baylor will still be wondering what in the world happened in their Week 1 freak upset loss. The Bears certainly have the talent to bounce back here, and I think they will. I like Baylor to log a convincing cover that will help erase the memory of their opener debacle.
