Down in Atlanta at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday, September 9, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will meet up in Week 2 college football action.
The Gamecocks are coming off a victory in Week 1, taking care of Chattanooga 27-13. Jacksonville State was up just 10-6 at halftime but pulled away in the third quarter. The big performer here was Roc Thomas, who carried 19 times for 122 yards and a TD—including a 76-yard rumble. Thomas also led the team in receiving with three grabs for 68 yards.

The Gamecocks finished 10-2 overall last season, going 7-0 in OVC play. Jacksonville State secured an automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs, but lost to Youngstown State 40-24.
Over on the Georgia Tech side, they are sitting at 0-1 after a wild 42-41 loss to Tennessee that took two overtimes to decide. TaQuon Marshall rushed 44 times for a whopping 249 yards and five touchdowns, while KirVonte Benson added 26 carries for 124 yards and a TD of his own. In all, the Jackets rushed 86 times for 535 yards as a team, but a key fumble late in the game cost Georgia Tech dearly.
The Yellow Jackets finished 9-4 in 2016, going 4-4 in ACC play. That earned GT a trip to the TaxSlayer Bowl, where they defeated Kentucky 33-18.
The under is 4-1 in the Gamecocks’ last five road games and Jacksonville State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games in September.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are 5-0 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 5-0 ATS in their last five games on grass. The under is also 4-1-1 in Georgia Tech’s last six games in September.
We could spend hours dissecting Georgia Tech’s Week 1 loss. Considering the amount of time they held the ball, and their domination early on, the Yellow Jackets should be sitting at 1-0. Instead, GT was doomed by their one-sided offense and their D’s inability to make key plays in decisive moments. This one’s going to sting for a while. Still, there are quite a few solid takeaways for Georgia Tech in this one, with the most obvious being that relentless running game. I like the Yellow Jackets to shake it off here and bag a cover, so long as the spread doesn’t turn out to be ridiculous.
