The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Missouri Tigers face off in an SEC conference matchup in week two college football action on Saturday evening.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to start the season strong with a second straight victory after defeating NC State by a final score of 35-28 in their opener. Jake Bentley completed 17 of his 29 pass attempts for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns, along with an interception. The Gamecocks’ ground game wasn’t very effective, with Rico Dowdle leading the team with 27 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, however Dowdle also had a pair of receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown through the air as well. Deebo Samuel led the charge, hauling in 5 passes for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also returning the opening kickoff 97 yards for a third score. Bryan Edwards also caught 5 balls for 55 yards in the win for South Carolina. Defensively, the Gamecocks combined for 4 sacks, but it was an otherwise disappointing outing as NC State doubled up SC’s offensive output, with the Wolfpack racking up 504 yards of total offense, including 415 yards through the air, comparison to the Gamecocks’ 246 yards.

The Missouri Tigers had an interesting season opener, but got the job done at the end of the day, winning a shootout with Missouri State by a final score of 72-43 in their season opener. Drew Lock threw for a whopping 521 yards and tied an SEC record with 7 touchdowns and also threw a measly interception in comparison. Damarea Crockett also had a banner day, taking his 18 carries and turning it into 202 yards on the ground and a pair of scores while also committing a fumble. Larry Rountree III also added a score on the ground with his 41 yards on 11 carries. The Tigers had a pair of 100-yard, 2 touchdown receivers in the win, as J’Mon Moore caught 4 passes for 187 yards and two scores while Jonathan Johnson caught a team-high 5 balls for 116 yards and a pair of TDs himself. Albert Okwuegbunam, Dominic Collins and Jason Reese each added a touchdown as well in the win. Defensively, the Tigers combined for 3 sacks and an interception, while forcing 3 fumbles, recovering just a single one. The Tigers offense was their best defense in the end, as they outgained the Bears 815 to 492 in terms of total offense.
South Carolina is 3-1-1 in their last 5 conference matchups and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games while the under is 19-9-1 in their last 29 games overall. Missouri is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 conference matchups and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. The under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I think if South Carolina can tighten things up here defensively, they have a real shot to win this game. Missouri’s alphabet starts A-B-C-E because simply there was no D to speak of in week one. The Tigers allowed 43 points and almost 500 yards of offense to an FCS opponent in Missouri State. Imagine what the likes of Samuel, Bentley and co. could do here. The Gamecocks are a big step up from Missouri State for the Tigers and I think South Carolina not only covers the spread but wins this game outright.
