The Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the Georgia Bulldogs in week two college football on Saturday.
The Georgia Bulldogs will be looking for their second straight victory when the team travels to Notre Dame on Saturday. The Bulldogs overcame the loss of quarterback Jacob Eason to an ankle injury to upend the always tough Appalachian State Mountaineers 31-10 as a 12.5 point favorite. Without their starting signal caller, UGA turned to their defense with success by holding a solid Appalachian State attack to just 284 yards while their own 368 yards didn’t stand out but was more then enough to put up some points. The Bulldogs turned to Jake Fromm at quarterback and he responded by throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown on a 10-15 performance with no interceptions. Nick Chubb led the Bulldogs rushing attack with 96 yards on 15 carries with a pair of trips to the endzone while Sony Michel logged another 87 yards on 16 totes and a touchdown. Javon Wims paced Georgia with three catches for 81 yards including a 34 yard scoring reception.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are looking to rebound from a dismal showing in 2016. The Fighting Irish took the first step with a week one 49-16 thrashing of the visiting Temple Owls. The Irish jumped out to a 21-3 advantage after the first quarter and were never challenged with stellar performances on both sides of the football leading the way. Notre Dame owned a 606-330 advantage in yardage and dominated the line of scrimmage with 442 yards coming on the ground. Brandon Wimbush had a successful debut under center for the Fighting Irish with 184 passing yards on 17-30 with a pair of scores and an interception with Equanimeous St. Brown snagging four balls for 80 yards and a touchdown. Josh Adams led the Fighting Irish on the ground with 161 yards and a pair of TD’s on 19 touches while Dexter Williams and Wimbush combining for another 230 yards on 18 carries with each finding the endzone.
Georgia are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in September and the under is 4-1 in Georgia last 5 games in September while Georgia are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games. Notre Dame are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and the over is 4-1 in Notre Dame last 5 games in September while Notre Dame are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games on fieldturf.
It might be Fromm at quarterback for the Bulldogs so that’s something to keep an eye on. I think we’re looking at a competitive game as Georgia still has a pulse offensively although it’s up to the defense to contain Wimbush and the Fighting Irish offense so this isn’t a score fest…
