The 14th ranked Stanford Cardinal will travel to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to take on the 4th ranked Stanford Cardinals this Saturday night in College Football action.
The 14th ranked Stanford Cardinal kicked off their season with a convincing 62-7 victory over the Rice Owls in Sydney, Australia. Stanford dominated Rice on both sides of the football and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 41-0 lead at halftime. Stanford outgained Rice 656-241 and held the Owls to just 95 yards through the air. Leading the way for Cardinal was Bryce Love who had 180 rushing yards and a TD on just 13 carries. Stanford has one of the better offensive lines in the Pac-12 this season and this was on full display against Rice after the Cardinal racked up 287 rushing yards on 36 carries. Stanford ranked just T-83rd in scoring offense last season but with 8 returning starters, including their leading receiver Trenton Irwin, the Cardinal hope they can improve an offense that struggled through the air last season. Stanford has to be encouraged by the play of QB Keller Chryst, who was injured throughout spring practice, as Chryst completed 14 of 24 passes for 253 yards and 2 TD. Stanford ranked 18th in scoring defense last year and should once again be one of the better defenses in the country led by secondary of Justin Reid and Quenton Meeks.

The 4th ranked USC Trojans had all they could handle against the Western Michigan Broncos, but was able to pull away late in the 4th quarter to open their season with a 49-31 victory this past Saturday. USC found themselves in a battle as the game was tied at 21 all at the end of the 3rd quarter however, pulled away after a 14-point scoring outburst over a 36 second span late in the 4th quarter. USC outgained by a 521-357 margin however, did loss the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for the Trojans was RB Ronald Jones II who had 159 yards and 3 TD’s on 18 carries. USC comes into this season as one of the National Championship favorites, led by Heisman Trophy candidate QB Sam Darnold, however, they’ll need Donald to improve from his opening game performance as he completed 23 of 33 passes for 289 yards and 2 INT against the Broncos. USC’s offense looked unstoppable towards the end of last season, and with Sam Donald, Ronald Jones II, and Deontay Burnett all returning, the Trojans should have one of the more explosive offenses in the country this season. As exciting as the USC offense is, it’s important to not overlook the Trojan defense that ranked 38th in scoring defense last season. The Trojans return 7 starters on the defensive end from last year’s squad and is led by LB Carson Smith who led the team in tackles last season.
The Cardinal are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in September and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Trojans are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Stanford showed everyone in their season opening demolishing of the Rice Owls that that they still have one of the best rushing attacks in the country behind an outstanding offensive line and RB Bryce Love. USC struggled a bit more than expected against Western Michigan, however, showed flashes of their potential in the 4th quarter when they ran away with the victory. Stanford is going to have a hard to repeating the offensive success they had against Rice against a solid USC defense and as I just don’t see USC’s Sam Darnold struggling for a 2nd consecutive game, I think USC walks away in this with a double-digit victory. Take USC to cover.
