The West Virginia Mountaineers also need a victory here after losing a heartbreaker to Virginia Tech in their season opener. The West Virginia Mountaineers have won six of their last seven home games. Will Grier is completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 371 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Grier has now 13 career touchdown passes on 213 career pass attempts. The West Virginia Mountaineers ground game is averaging 221 yards per contest, and Justin Crawford leads the way with 106 yards on 13 carries. Defensively, West Virginia is allowing 31 points and 469 yards per game. Hakeem Bailey leads the West Virginia Mountaineers with eight tackles, Jon Lewis has 0.5 sacks and Mike Daniels Jr. has two pass deflections.
The Pirates are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 non-conference games, 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games and 9-24 ATS in their last 33 games overall. The Mountaineers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Pirates are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings in West Virginia, the home team is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
If East Carolina is going to allow 600 yards against James Madison, I can only imagine how ugly things can get against West Virginia. The Mountaineers had offensive success against a solid defensive team in Virginia Tech despite the losing effort. At home and against a much softer defense, this is a game where WVU should be able to control the pace and put a lot of points on the board. There's better bets on the card for Saturday, but the Mountaineers should be able to run away this game based on the way both teams played last week.
