The Akron Zips welcome the Iowa State Cyclones to town in week three college football.
The Iowa State Cyclones go on the road in search of their second win when the team takes the field with the Akron Zips. The Cyclones need to shake off the disappointment of a 44-41, overtime loss to the rival Iowa Hawkeyes as a 3.5 point home dog. ISU lost the yardage battle by a slight 497-467 margin and only held the ball for 23 minutes. Iowa State leaned heavily on the pass to move the chains and find the endzone and that was a highly successful endeavor with quarterback Jacob Park connecting on 25-46 for 347 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Hakeem Butler was the star receiver for the Cyclones with five receptions for 128 yards with 30 yard and 74 yard scoring strikes while Marchie Murdock and David Montgomery combined for 121 yards on nine catches. Iowa State did have success on the ground with Montgomery rambling for 112 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries but the real issue was keeping Iowa from scoring.

The Akron Zips will be looking for a home win when the Iowa State Cyclones come to town on Saturday. The Zips bounced back from a loss in week one to thrash the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 52-3. This was completely one sided with the Zips rolling up 464 yards while holding the Golden Lions to a mere 168 yards while forcing a pair of turnovers. This one was over from a competitive stand point with Akron taking a 31-3 lead in to intermission. Thomas Woodson led the Zips in the air with 166 passing yards on a 15-21 effort with a touchdown in just over a half of action. Warren Ball led the Akron rushing attack with 166 yards on 20 carries with three scores as the offense was capable of doing whatever they pleased against an over matched Golden Lions defense.
The over is 5-0 in Iowa State last 5 games overall and Iowa State are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 versus MAC and the over is 5-0 in Iowa State last 5 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. The under is 8-0 in Akron last 8 games on fieldturf and the under is 8-0 in Akron last 8 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game while the under is 6-0 in Zips last 6 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
I think Iowa State is better then most people believe and should be able to light up the airways versus the Zips. I’ll back the Cyclones for now but I really want to see the total…
