The Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans meet Saturday in college football action at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on FOX.
The Texas Longhorns look for a estaminet victory to get a game above a .500 record. The Texas Longhorns have lost eight of their last 10 road games. Shane Buechele is completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 375 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Buechele and Sam Ehlinger have combined for three touchdowns this season. Collin Johnson and Reggie Hemphill-Mapps have combined for 291 receiving yards and one touchdown while Armanti Foreman has 10 receptions. The USC Trojans look for another victory to build on their 2-0 start to the CFB season. The USC Trojans have won 11 straight home games. Sam Darnold is completing 74.6 percent of his passes for 605 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. Darnold has thrown two interceptions in four of his last six games. Deontay Burnett and Steven Mitchell Jr. have combined for 396 receiving yards and four touchdowns while Tyler Petite has six receptions. The USC Trojans ground game is averaging 269.5 yards per contest, and Ronald Jones II leads the way with 275 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, USC is allowing 27.5 points and 349.5 yards per game. Cameron Smith leads the USC Trojans with 14 tackles, Josh Fatu has one sack and Marvell Tell III has one interception.
The Longhorns are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Pac-12 and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The over is 4-0 in Trojans last 4 games overall and under is 8-1 in Longhorns last 9 games overall.
The USC Trojans have been a little shaky to start the season, but the offensive production is showing signs of returning to what it was late last season and there's still room to improve with Darnold cutting back on his turnovers. Texas beat the doors off of San Jose State, but was torched by an average Maryland squad and has had very little road success over the years. The Longhorns are still in that prove it stage, as the talent is there, but the results continue to come up short. So, while I'd love to see a tight contest between these two giant programs, Texas has done little to convince me it's capable of providing that. Give me USC in a blowout.
