The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers face the UAB Blazers on the road in week three college football.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers come off a bye week to take the field with the UAB Blazers on Saturday. The Chanticleers foray in to FBS status began on a positive note with a 38-28 victory over the UMass Minutemen. Coastal Carolina lost the yardage battle 441-401 but held the ball for nearly 35 minutes behind a productive rushing attack that totaled 321 yards on 6.8 yards per carry. Chanticleers quarterback Tyler Keane completed 9-17 for 78 yards and a touchdown but the passing game was second fiddle to the run. Osharmar Abercrombie rumbled for 149 yards on 17 totes with four and seven yard scoring runs while the twosome of Marcus Outlow and Alex James combining for 104 yards on 13 touches to give Coastal Carolina several options. Ky’Jon Tyler was the top Chanticleers receiver with five receptions for the 38 yards.
The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers shoot for win number two in 2017 against visiting Coastal Carolina in week three. The Blazers come off a 51-31 defeat at the Ball State Cardinals where the team dominated total yardage 504-385 but lost a pair of fumbles and committed nine penalties for 81 yards. The Blazers trailed by only 21-17 heading to intermission before Ball State returned a kickoff 93 yards for six and slowly pulled away from that point. UAB quarterback AJ Erdely engineered a short but effective passing attack on a 15-24 effort for 168 yards with Sederian Copeland and Jonathan Haden combining for five receptions for 78 yards. Alabama-Birmingham did their best work on the ground with Spencer Brown totaling 151 yards on 17 carries for nearly a nine yard average while Erdely ran 14 times for 77 yards and three touchdowns.
