Down in Winston-Salem on Saturday, September 16, the Utah State Aggies and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be meeting up in Week 2 college football action at BB&T Field.
Utah State comes into this game with a 1-1 record so far, following a drilling by Wisconsin in the opener 59-10 and a beatdown of Idaho State 51-13 this past Saturday. In that game, the Aggies’ Kent Myers put up 323 yards and two touchdowns on a stellar 24-of-26 passing, while Eltoro Allen led Utah State with 19 carries for 103 yards and a score.
So far this season, Myers has 542 yards overall with two touchdowns and four interceptions. Allen is sitting on 100 yards for Utah State, while Jordan Nathan is tops among the receivers with nine grabs for 86 yards.
Over on the Wake Forest side, they’re sitting at 2-0 following a 51-7 win over Presbyterian in Week 1, and a 34-10 victory over Boston College this past Saturday. In that game, QB John Wolford went 13-of-19 for 151 yards and a TD while also leading the Demon Deacons in rushing with 20 carries, 92 yards and a TD. Greg Dortch led Wake forest in receiving with six catches for 56 yards.
After two games, Wolford is sitting on 258 yards and four touchdowns through the air, and 26 carries for 139 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Dortch leads the Demon Deacons in receiving with 10 catches for 111 yards and three scores.
Utah State is 5-16 ATS in the last 21 games overall and 2-10 ATS versus a team with a winning record. The Aggies are also 1-6 ATS in their last seven games on field turf and 0-5 ATS in their last five road games.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. The Demon Deacons are also 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight up win and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games on fieldturf.
The spread for this game is pretty decent-sized, and rightfully so. Wake Forest has looked pretty dominant over their last two games, but those are games they should easily have won—and they did take care of business. As for Utah State, they get credit for not folding after the Wisconsin game; the Aggies bounced back nicely. Still, I like Wolford and the Demon Deacons to play well again here so I will take Wake Forest for the cover.
