The Iowa State Cyclones look for a statement victory to build on their solid 2-1 start to the CFB season. The Iowa State Cyclones have lost five of their last seven home games. Jacob Park is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 935 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Park has two touchdown passes in five of his last six games. Hakeem Butler and Allen Lazard have combined for 412 receiving yards and six touchdowns while Trever Ryen has 13 receptions. The Longhorns are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Cyclones are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games, 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The home team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
The home team has won the last three meetings between these two teams and four of the last five overall. Both clubs are coming off a bye week and have had close losses, as Texas nearly upset USC on the road and Iowa State lost a heartbreaker to Iowa in overtime. For me, Texas still has a ways to go, as it's 0-2 SU this season against Power five schools, struggles defensively and the offense is a bit predictable with a limited passing attack. There's still too many traits that remain with past Texas teams. Iowa State has been better than a lot of people expect, and it just went blow for blow with the Hawkeyes, a team that probably should have beaten Penn State last weekened. The Cyclones will head into this game confident and the crowd should be out. I like Iowa State and the points in a game it can win outright.
