The UTEP Miners face the triple option of the Army Black Knights in week five college football.
The UTEP Miners go on the road searching for win number one of the season when the team travels to the Army Black Knights. The Miners fell to 0-4 on the season with a 41-14 defeat at the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday as a 17 point underdog. Texas El Paso has largely struggled on both sides of the football thus far and that trend continued at New Mexico State as the team was outgained 462-227 and committed a whopping five turnovers. The Miners best offensive performer was Quadraiz Wadley with 77 rushing yards on 19 carries but suffice to say that wasn’t enough. The Miners really had issues throwing the ball with the quarterback combo of Ryan Metz and Mark Torrez completing a combined 10-34 for 92 yards and five interceptions including a pick six while David Lucero and Tyler Batson recorded two receptions each for 57 yards. The UTEP defense did get on the scoreboard with Trace Mascorro’s 26 yard fumble return for six.

The Army Black Knights will be looking to avoid the upset bid of the UTEP Miners when the teams clash in week five. The Black Knights fell to 2-2 on the season with back to back defeats following a 21-17 loss at the Tulane Green Wave as a field goal underdog. Army owned a slight 371-356 yardage edge and held the ball for over 39 minutes but the offense gave the ball away three times which essentially was the difference. Army attempted five passes with Ahmad Bradshaw going 0-3 with an interception while Kelvin Hopkins Jr. was 0-2 with another interception. The Black Knights did have success on the ground with Andy Davidson leading the way with 130 yards on 26 touches with Bradshaw adding 65 yards and a touchdown on five totes while the duo of Kell Walker and Calen Holt combined for 108 yards on 18 touches.
UTEP are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games in September and UTEP are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games while UTEP are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The over is 6-1 in Army last 7 versus CUSA and the under is 5-1 in Army last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while the under is 4-1 in Army last 5 games in September.
Army should be able to move the ball and find the endzone often against the struggling Miners. The problem with covering the big number is the offense has to avoid mistakes and be efficient or the clock will burn and we’re staring at a 30-10 game that should have been 45-10…
